Yup, that’s right!  We’ve moved. We’ve got a little more elbow room and more space for social distancing and just a really nice atmosphere (if we say so ourselves!). We’re just 3 miles west of our old location. Oh, did we mention that it’s an old farmhouse?

Our new address is: 3392 Buffalo Rd, Rochester NY, 14624 (on the north side).  We’re between Elmgrove Rd and Manitou Rd, so those visiting us from the Eastside may want to consider 531 to either Elmgrove or Manitou, or taking 490 to the Gates exit and traveling west on Buffalo Rd. Look for our sign out front!

We are still practicing safe social distancing. We’re doing the middle steps for everyone and asking that if you’d like to come in, please reach out and schedule an appointment with us. We’re taking small groups at this point. See more on our latest COVID update post.

(Note: Some people have asked: Yes, we ARE able to start wines for you if you so desire. We would need to take a phone order up front however. (And NO, sampling is not available, sorry))

We have always been classified as an “essential” business, which allowed us to continue to move your wines “forward” through the process. We have been bottling for some and others have chosen to wait (semi-patiently).

While we would like to offer to continue bottling for you, at this time guidance allows us to open for LIMITED bottling. We know that some of you are eager to return, but we’ll do it slowly. By appointment only (and for VERY small groups – ideally 2 people). If you’d like us to bottle for you, you can drop off bottles, or check in with us if you need some.

As previously stated, we have also begun sampling/starting (again, in VERY small groups – ideally 2 people) by appointment only. We will be masked and gloved, and would ask that you wear a mask as well (and be in good health). You can email us at [email protected] or call us at (585)235-1090 to schedule an appointment.

We will continue to review the situation and guidance as we move forward through the phased re-openings. We appreciate your patronage, and look forward to when we can return to business as usual at WBD!

Once again, we’d like to announce additional changes to how we will do business at Wines By Design.

We had previously announced that we would mandate that the two middle steps (racking and filtering) of the wine currently in process be done (for the immediate future) by WBD staff only.

Due to continued guidance from the CDC, NYS, and Monroe county, we will no longer allow you to bottle your wine (for the immediate future). This is in an effort to promote social distancing. This does NOT mean that you can’t get your wine. We would like to offer to bottle it for you. Due to the extenuating circumstances that is the world today, we feel that this would be the most prudent step forward.

If you wanted to use your own bottles, we would ask that you schedule a time with us to drop them off, we will sanitize and bottle the wine for you and then you can come pick it up. We know that this requires an additional trip for you, but it helps both you and us practice the required social distancing.

If you’d like to purchase bottles from us, we would like to offer a 10% discount off of our new bottle price.

As previously stated, we are also open to allowing you to age your wines with us. It will not hurt the wine.

We have begun by asking our staff to practice social distancing by staying home and being safe.

We have thouroughly cleaned the store and will continue to do so after each visit. This includes, but is not limited to: all surfaces, bottling equipment, labeling equipment, shrink cap equipment, checkout area, etc.

We would also like to mandate that the two middle steps (racking and filtering) of the wine currently in process be done (for the immediate future) by WBD staff only. We know that a number of you like to come in and perform the middle steps, but we promise to be gentle with your wine and take very good care of it.

Finally, in an effort to practice social distancing ourselves, we’d like to ask you to consider that you begin to age your wines with us, for the short term. It will not hurt it and once again, we promise to be very careful.

It’s here!  (Annnddd, it’s gone.)

The annual WBD Wine Tasting Competition has been postponed.

It’s with heavy hearts that we are announcing the postponement of our annual Wine Competition.

Due to the guidance of the CDC regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and followed up by recommendations from NYS and Monroe county, we are postponing the annual Wine Tasting Competition that was scheduled for March 21, 2020.  We were certainly looking forward to it, but it’s much more important to be safe.

All entries will be kept in our “wine cellar” for automatic entry into the Wine Tasting Competition once we know when it’s safe to be rescheduled. 

In addition, we have been informed by our area school systems that the Spring Continuing Education classes (“Wine Making Made Simple”) have been canceled.  (You will need to reach out to the school you registered with for additional information.)

We will continue to be open for “normal” business, but we will reserve the right to space people out as appropriate.  This MAY mean that you may have to postpone or delay bottling your wine.

Remember: We can do the middle steps for you.  Some of you have set up appointments to do the middle steps. If you are uncomfortable coming out, or would simply like to continue staying home, we are happy to do them for you. 

(Additionally: If you don’t show up at your scheduled time, we will go ahead and do it for you.)
